What is Shopify Checkout Extensibility and how it affects Awin tracking
Shopify's Checkout Extensibility gives advertisers on Basic, Shopify, and Advanced plans greater flexibility in customizing checkout and account pages. It makes it possible to integrate UI extensions and web pixels into the Thank You and Order Status pages.
With Checkout Extensibility in place, third-party connections via client-side scripts are no longer supported. Shopify now requires these to be replaced with compatible apps from the Shopify App Store, or rebuilt using UI extensions and web pixels. Awin's Shopify app stays fully functional through our hybrid tracking approach, which includes fallback solutions and server-side tracking pre-built into the app from version 3.0.5 onwards.
If you're on a version of the Awin Shopify app prior to 3.0.5 - or you have no app installed and rely solely on checkout.liquid, Additional Scripts, or Script Tags (via apps) - you're in the impacted group and need to take action to protect your tracking.
Deadlines: what you need to know
Shopify Plus stores: the deadline to upgrade Thank You and Order Status pages was 28 August 2025. This has now passed. Since January 2026, Shopify has been automatically upgrading Plus stores that haven't migrated, removing legacy customizations including Additional Scripts and checkout.liquid in the process.
Non-Plus stores (Basic, Shopify, and Advanced plans): the deadline is 26 August 2026. After this date, Shopify automatically upgrades these stores too. Any customizations relying on Additional Scripts or checkout.liquid, including tracking pixels, will be removed.
If you haven't yet upgraded, check Shopify admin > Settings > Checkout for an upgrade notice.
What you need to do to keep your Awin tracking
Here's what to do depending on your current setup.
Awin Shopify app users on an outdated version
Sign in and locate the app: Sign in to Shopify using your store credentials, go to Apps, and select Awin - Affiliate Marketing.
Update the app: Follow the on-screen prompt to complete the update.
Verify that tracking is working: Complete a test transaction and check it under the Tracking Diagnosis tool in Awin. The transaction should arrive tagged with the latest app version number.
ShareASale advertisers on legacy tracking methods
If you have no app installed - neither ShareASale nor Awin - and rely solely on checkout.liquid, Additional Scripts, or Script Tags via apps, you'll lose tracking completely once Checkout Extensibility takes effect. Installing the Awin Shopify app will get you back on track.
Open the installation page: Go directly to the installation page within Awin Classic.
Install the app: Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.
Verify that tracking is working: Follow the final instructions in the guide to complete a test order and confirm your setup.

It looks like my order references are different in Awin reporting
Shopify's Checkout Extensibility means that on some occasions the store's internal order ID is sent to Awin via the checkout events instead. For more information on this see this article.
Why is my Shopify app not sending MasterTag conversion calls?
If Checkout Extensibility has been activated - or is being upgraded to - it may cause the Shopify app to stop sending client-side tracking calls, as the feature limits this during checkout.
Affiliate conversions can still be recorded through server-side tracking as part of Awin's hybrid tracking approach, as long as you're on an up-to-date version of the Awin Shopify app (see steps above). Unfortunately, add-on features related to Awin's MasterTag - such as partner plugins - are not currently available to advertisers using Shopify's Checkout Extensibility.
