This article explains what post-view tracking is, and how to set the post-view duration for your partners.

Important

Post-view tracking is not enabled by default. You need to ask Awin to activate this feature before your can use it in your program settings. If you have a dedicated Awin contact, please reach out to them. If not, you can get in touch with our support team by filling out the contact form.

What is post-view

Post-view tracking records sales that happen after a user sees a partner’s advert but doesn’t click it.

How it works:

  1. When an advert loads in the user’s browser, a post-view cookie is added.

  2. If the user completes a purchase while this cookie is still active, the partner who created the advert receives the commission.

  3. If the user clicks on the partner’s advert, a post-click cookie is dropped instead.

  4. Post-click cookies always take priority and can never be replaced by post-view cookies. These cookies last up to two days.

Post-view duration

The post-view duration is the amount of time (in minutes) that a post-view cookie remains valid. The timer starts when the user views the advert and ends when they complete a transaction.

Editing the post-view duration

You can manage post-view duration once the feature is activated for your program.

Set your program-level duration

In the platform go to Account > Settings > Tracking settings > Publisher Settings, then scroll to Post View Duration.

Edit individual partner’s duration

In Publisher Settings (Account > Settings > Tracking Settings) scroll to the bottom of the page.

  1. Choose the partner from the drop down menu.

  2. Select Open Settings.

  3. Adjust their duration.

A partner-level duration can be shorter or longer than your program’s default, but it can’t exceed the post-view cookie’s total lifetime.

Example setup

This example shows a configuration where only selected partners use post-view tracking:

  • Post-view cookie lifetime: 1,000 minutes

  • Program post-view duration: 0 minutes

  • Partner A post-view duration: 500 minutes

  • Partner B post-view duration: 1,000 minutes

Using the custom post-view duration settings

If you don’t select the Custom post-view duration checkbox, the partner automatically follows your program’s global duration.
