# Build and optimize a successful affiliate program

This article explains how to launch, grow, and optimize a strong affiliate program. It covers how to build a solid foundation, what to focus on during your first three months, and how to expand performance thereafter. ### Strengthen the foundation of your program

**Use the ‘To do list’**

Check your dashboard’s**To do list**regularly to understand performance trends and upcoming actions. These insights help you identify opportunities early and respond quickly.

**Keep your profile accurate**

Partners rely on up-to-date information when promote your brand. Review your profile and contact details frequently to ensure consistency.

**Approve partners quickly**

A fast, fair approval process keeps partners engaged. Review applications promptly to maintain interest and build strong relationships.

**Maintain fresh creative**

Upload current assets, including product images, seasonal banners, and promotional materials. Updated creative improves alignment with your messaging and drives stronger conversions.

**Communicate proactively**

Treat your partners like an extension of your sales team. Share updates on top products, new launches, and upcoming campaigns through the **Communication Center**. Frequent communication supports better results.

**Validate and pay commissions on time**

Consistent validation builds trust and helps partners manage budgeting and campaign planning. If auto-validation is enabled, pending commissions automatically approve after the set period. Be sure to decline cancelled orders before that window closes.

### Build awareness in your first three months

Your first three months should focus on learning the platform, building visibility, and attracting partners.

**Key actions**

- Define your goals (for example, grow new customers, increase sales volume, boost AOV, build awareness).
- Learn about partner types and what different partners need from you.
- Use the platform **Partner Discovery** tools to find and onboard partners early.
- Keep offers visible by managing promotions through **My Offers**.
- Add a variety of creative assets in **My Creative**.
- Launch your program with a campaign using the Campaign tool to attract new partners and encourage early promotion.
- Monitor competitor promotions and placements.
- Send updates regularly via the **Communication Center**.
- Advertise your affiliate program on your website or social channels to grow interest.

### Review and optimize your commission strategy

**Set a competitive default commission**

Your default commission rate influences how partners prioritize your program. If it’s below industry norms, you may struggle to secure high quality promotion.

- Research typical rates on cashback and voucher sites.
- Compare your setup with similar brands.
- Adjust your commission rate to stay competitive while protecting margins.
- Offer exclusive commission rates.
- Exclusive rates incentivize partners to feature your brand more prominently.

**How to use this strategy:**

- Identify high-performing or high potential partners.
- Negotiate increased commission in return for additional, relevant exposure.

**Provide exclusive discount codes**

Exclusive codes help partners stand out and can often improve conversion.

**Best practices:**

- Create personalized codes for specific partners.

### Strengthen performance using data

### Grow engagement moving forward (months 3–6)

From month three onward, the focus shifts to optimization, relationship building, and identifying key drivers of ongoing growth.

**Key actions**

- Continue recruiting partners through Awin and direct outreach.
- Strengthen relationships by understanding placements and negotiating tailored exposure.
- Review your partner mix to identify consistent performers and reward them appropriately.
- Plan for seasonal trends and major sales periods, such as Black Friday.
- Reactivate inactive partners with personalized guidance or incentives.

### Improve the attractiveness of your affiliate program

**Understand your Awin Index Score**

After your program has been live for three months, your **Awin Index Score** is calculated. This score (0-100) shows partners how attractive your program is.

It is based on:

- Conversion rate
- Approval percentage
- Validation period.
- Earnings per click (EPC)

A high score helps your program stand out in the **Advertiser Directory.**

**How to improve your score**

- Review partners generating high clicks but low conversions to identify potential blockers.
- Check declined commissions to ensure decisions are accurate and fair.
- Validate consistently to build trust.
- Compare your performance and commission structure against competitors.
