What is cross border tracking (CBT)

With the help of Cross Border Tracking a connection is established between two separate advertiser programs, and a transaction is tracked if click and conversion come from different partner programs.

In case of different country programs, connecting tracking across all URLs is mandatory (see Awin tracking policy). With CBT we provide a tool that ensures this.

Optimal conditions for CBT

  • Conversion Pixel and MasterTag on all pages.

  • For different domains (for example .de and .at) - transfer of awc at country switch to enable first party.

  • With one domain (for example .com/de and .com/at) first party is automatically guaranteed.

  • Unconditional tracking or with tracking switch - transfer of tracking relevant parameters at country switch.

Implementation

  • Option 1 : Transaction is assigned to the program where the transaction takes place (seller-credited).

    • If you choose this option, make sure to guide new partners in your welcome email to also apply to the programs of the other countries. This ensures they can earn commission when their users complete a purchase on a different country’s website.

  • Option 2 (recommended) : Transaction is assigned to the program where the click takes place (referrer-credited).

    • The commission groups should be identical in both programs, otherwise the cross-regional transactions will come in with the default commission group if applicable.

    • The cross-regional transaction will not be displayed in the respective country program, as they will be recorded where the click (referrer) comes from. Please take this into account during validation if necessary.
