Attribution Manager tool is available only for Awin Advanced customers.

This article explains where to find Attribution Manager and how to use its features to optimize your affiliate marketing budget. It also outlines the requirements to ensure the tool functions correctly and includes answers to common questions.

What Attribution Manager does and where to find it

The Attribution Manager lets you fine‑tune how your budget is allocated by defining custom attribution rules. This helps ensure your spend rewards the clicks that bring the most value to your business.

You can find the Attribution Manager in the platform under Commission > Rules > Attribution Manager.

Requirements to use Attribution Manager

To access the tool’s full functionality, make sure you meet the following requirements:

  • MasterTag tracking must be active, and

  • Journey Path data must be collected.

You can verify this by opening the Journey Path report under Reports > Insights > Journey Path.

Some advanced conversion settings (Customer Acquisition Type and Custom Parameter) require that your tracking sends these values to Awin.

How the Attribution Manager supports your marketing activity

The Attribution Manager provides more control over how you allocate affiliate marketing spend. You can define rules that prioritize the types of clicks that matter most to your goals.

Attribution parameters you can set:

  • Conversion settings - Limit the application of a rule to certain transactions, such as:

    • Conversion type (sale or lead)

    • Customer acquisition type (new or returning)

    • Value of a custom parameter you’ve sent to Awin

  • Time window - Define how long after a click the rule should apply. Clicks outside this window won’t be processed under the rule.

  • Publishers - Apply a rule to all partners or only to selected groups.

  • Click preference - Choose whether matched clicks are sorted using first click or last click logic.

What happens if an attribution rule doesn’t produce a match

Attribution rules run in priority order. The Attribution Manager evaluates your highest‑priority rule. If no click matches, it moves to the next rule. This continues until a matching click is found. If none of your custom rules match, the system falls back to the default attribution rule.

You can change rule priority at any time.

What happens with clicks from cashback or loyalty partners?

Clicks from partners whose primary type is cashback or loyalty are always attributed on a last‑click basis, since users expect a clear incentive.
